NIGERIA'S NEWLY LAUNCHED ANTI-PIRACY INITIATIVE WILL GREATLY BENEFIT THE SEA CARGO SHIPPING INDUSTRY

The Nigerian government is taking stern measures to enhance the security in its oceans for combatting the maritime piracy

The Nigerian government has stepped up its security measures to counter the threats of pirates in the Gulf of Guinea region. They are making substantial investments to boost their law enforcement infrastructure to ensure the safety of its waters. This measure is going to be of great help for the entire ocean cargo shipping industry that in turn will lead to a larger volume of commercial activities.

The Integrated National Security and Waterways Protection Infrastructure Network aka the Deep Blue Project seeks to enhance the maritime security of this region by preventing crimes like piracy, robbery etc.

A Lagos based command and control unit will be in charge of two armed ships, 17 high speed vessels, two long-range airplanes, three helicopters and four drones that will patrol this area all round the day. This endeavour has received full support from the Oil Companies International Marine Forum. According to a statement from BIMCO- the world’s largest shipowners association, "Deep Blue becoming operational represents a significant opportunity to expand law and order at sea in cooperation with international forces in the area. We look forward to seeing Nigeria make the best of these assets to the benefit of Nigeria, its citizens and economy, and of course the seafarers from all over the world going about their daily business in the Gulf of Guinea."

HOW TO STRENGTHEN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR LOGISTICS PARTNERS

In the transportation and logistics industry collaboration and relationship building are paramount to success. That is why here we briefly glance through 4 crucial tips for a better and more productive logistics partnership.

UNDERSTAND YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

In order to execute a shipment properly, you need to understand your exact responsibilities and start working beforehand. Your responsibilities could include various aspects of the project such as documentation, packing, warehousing, labelling, arranging for special equipment, booking containers, customs clearance etc.

DIRECT COMMUNICATION WITH YOUR PARTNERS

Clear communication is the only way to avoid misunderstandings while working on an important project. This is why you need to communicate with your partners as frequently as possible via emails, phone calls, videoconferences and even in-person meetings whenever possible.

Sitting face-to-face with your partners at least once a year is mandatory for a productive professional relationship. This is why you need to attend our yearly meeting that gives you a perfect chance to nurture your business relations.

PAY YOUR PARTNERS ON TIME

This is probably the most important factor to ensure a smooth long-term relationship with your logistics partners. Nobody wants to do business with a company that has a history of non-payment. A good credit relationship is the first step for a good partnership. Delaying your payments or not paying in correct terms are the most common obstacles to a productive partnership.

IMPLEMENT ROBUST TECHNOLOGY

Lastly, it needs to be said that technological innovations not only help with customer care and operational efficiency but also help to create better relationships with your partners. Investing in platforms that optimize workflows and processes will help to identify risks, solve them, minimize your response time and result in a seamless workflow. In other words, it will give you a competitive edge that will help to boost your image among your industry partners.
