Welcome to the December edition of Conqueror’s quarterly newsletters. The year has come to an end and despite all the challenges our sector has had to deal with, this year has been a productive one for Conqueror and its members. Before anything else, I would like to wish all of you a very happy and prosperous 2022. We are hoping that in 2022 we will leave the pandemic behind us and all of us will once again be able to meet and greet each other in person during our 9th Annual Meeting.

Inside the newsletter, you will find a special feature about Conqueror’s 10th Anniversary. Make sure to check out our 10th Anniversary Video if you haven’t already! Like all other editions of our newsletters, you will get to read about the accomplishment of your network partners in the last 3 months. Additionally, there is a special report on FreightViewer where Manuel Cardona, our IT Manager, and FreightViewer Developer has talked about the impetus behind the creation of this platform and how it is helping our members to digitize their operations.

Our sector news in focus for this newsletter is about the price hikes in the LTL shipping sector. In addition, you will also get to read the news headlines making waves in the industry. Lastly, we have published a very interesting report about the problem of maritime piracy that still continues to plague the ocean freight sector.

2021 MARKS THE 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF CONQUEROR FREIGHT NETWORK!

This year Conqueror Freight Network completed 10 years in the industry and we celebrated this special occasion during the 2nd Virtual Meeting, held on 29th and 30th November.

“Conqueror was born in 2011 with 50 members located in 33 countries. However, now it has evolved into the largest exclusive international freight network, with over 250 companies based in 140 countries”,

Since then, Conqueror has organized 10 successful yearly meetings, created pioneering digital tools, expanded our team at the head office, and most importantly sought to provide members with all means to grow their business.

Right from the very outset of our operations, you as our members have forged fantastic partnerships around the world and most importantly lasting friendships with other network members, which have helped you achieve your business goals.

To make the anniversary all the more memorable, Conqueror created a short video with all the meeting highlights from the past decade. This video was screened during Conqueror’s 2nd Virtual Meeting, right after the welcome speech by Antonio Torres. It allowed the participants to take a trip down memory lane and cherish their memories of the Annual Meetings from the last 10 years.partnerships around the world and most importantly lasting friendships with other network members, which have helped you achieve your business goals.

Conqueror’s Targets for 2022

AN IN-PERSON ANNUAL MEETING

In the last two years, we couldn’t get together in person during our yearly meetings like we used to do. We are hoping that the situation in 2022 will be favourable for holding an in-person meeting so that we can once again gather in a lovely location and carry on with our business networking and social activities!

ONLINE SUPPLY CHAIN TRAINING COURSE FOR OUR MEMBERS

In 2022, Conqueror will inaugurate our freight forwarders online academy. This is a new member-exclusive service that will give you the opportunity to acquire new skills and become competent international freight forwarders. Conqueror members will get to participate in two diploma courses in partnership with CIFFA: International Transportation and Trade & The Essentials of Freight Forwarding, and a wide range of training material about the leasing container industry, offered by Container xChange.

CREATE A MOBILE APP

Next year, we are planning to launch a mobile intranet app with the intent of enabling members to be connected 24/7 via mobile devices. With this app, members will easily be able to find their partners from their phones with just a few taps and interact with them instantly via WhatsApp, Skype, and email.

MORE FEATURES TO FURTHER ENHANCE THE UTILITIES OF FREIGHTVIEWER

Our FreightViewer department is working round the clock to add new features and enhance the utilities of this platform. Since 2020, the freight forwarding industry has finally woken up to the call of digitization and we are also taking steps towards this objective. In 2022, we aim to expand our partnerships with the top tech companies to enhance connectivity between forwarders, carriers, and customers.

THE RATES OF LTL SHIPPING WILL SKYROCKET IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2022

Labour shortage, capacity crunch, carrier consolidations are some of the factors behind the hike in LTL prices

The challenges faced by the supply chain sector in 2021 will continue to plague the industry in 2022. Last year we have already seen a rise in the price of LTL shipping even though there was a drop in weight per shipment.

Current market forecast indicates that logistics companies should be prepared for higher LTL shipping prices at least till March 2022.

The record high GRIs (General Rate Increases) coupled with high surcharges are not the only factors for the hike in LTL prices. There is a shortage of truck drivers and trucking capacity that has been further intensified due to the closure of Central Freight Lines. Most importantly, a whopping 70% of LTL freight is now controlled by the top 10 carriers.

Lastly, market analysts are warning that the surge in Omicron cases might once again lead to the implementation of quarantine rules for returning drivers. This is one important factor that would lead to further delays and cost hike.

Middle Eastern carrier Etihad Cargo partners with Singapore based logistics tech developer Speedcargo to deploy AI-powered air freight loading

The new technology will boost their freight capacity by over 3,000 tonnes a year, reduce manual work, and lead to significant cost reduction
