MARCH 2022
The launch of Conqueror’s online academy:
An excellent opportunity to pursue certificate courses from top institutes for succeeding in the industry!
Dear members,
Welcome to the first edition of
Conqueror’s 2022 quarterly newsletters.
Hope this newsletter finds you in the
best of health and spirit. This year has
started on a good note for the freight
forwarding industry. The international
flights are operating normally once again
and we can also see a slight reduction in the supply
chain bottlenecks. I really hope that this year we will
be able to conduct an in-person meeting in a lovely
location with all our team activities and face-to-face
meetings. Keep an eye on our website for further
updates regarding this.
Our March newsletter includes a special post dedicated to the Online Learning Academy created by Conqueror. Our members can now go for online logistics certificate courses provided by CIFFA and Container xChange for enhanced performance in the industry and for successfully bypassing the competition.
Our Members’ News for this edition features the latest achievements of your partners in Sao Paolo, Penang, Dhaka, Amsterdam, Hangzhou, and Athens/ Piraeus. Furthermore, you can also read an interview with CQR’s Membership Development Coordinator Anibal del Diego who talks about his experiences at Conqueror and the advantages of the network members among other things.
Our industry news in focus is on the transformation of India into a logistics powerhouse. Moreover, we have also included several news headlines from the supply chain industry. There is also a special article on abandoned cargo and how independent freight forwarders should deal with them.
Make sure to keep up with the teamwork with your network partners for the benefit of your team, your partners as well as your customers. Lastly, don’t forget to send us the details of your noteworthy achievements so that our PR team can publicize them and so as to get your news featured in our News Section and our Newsletters.
Hope you enjoy reading our newsletter!
Kind regards,
Antonio Torres
President and Founder - Conqueror Freight Network
Anibal is responsible for conducting extensive research about the applicants before recruiting the most reliable and capable independent freight forwarders. Moreover, his other task consists of finding new sales leads and selecting reliable forwarders as Conqueror members.
Andrea Martin, Conqueror’s FreightViewer Coordinator, participated at the Roundtable titled ‘Road Transport Challenges’ of the Logistics Business Show last Tuesday 15th March at 10.00 am UK/11.00 am CET.
On it, she talked about how to deal with the transportation challenges through digitization and especially through Conqueror’s TMS FreightViewer.
More and more learners are opting for online classes rather than in-person ones. The reason is the enhanced accesibility of virtual classrooms.
Conqueror has opened an online logistics education platform that will allow members to upskill and expand their knowledge base and create a competitive infrastructure to provide value-added logistics solutions.
As the largest exclusive freight forwarders network on the globe, Conqueror believes in nurturing the development of the essential skills for its members in every possible way.
This is precisely what motivated us to find a unique way of logistics training that will allow you and your employees to learn and execute complicated supply chain processes.
The popularity of virtual learning programmes, has finally brought to the fore the convenience
and flexibility of online learning. Ever since the pandemic, a large number of higher educational
institutions have embraced online coaching with the help of tech tools like LMS (learning
management system) and videoconferencing platforms.
However, people who have never experienced online learning sometimes have preconceived
notions of what it is going to be like:
When it comes to learning (no matter if it’s online or offline) age is never a bar. Professionals both young and old, those who are tech-savvy and those who are averse to technology, have to embrace the digital transformation. You don’t need to be an IT professional to attend an online class. Basic knowledge of using a computer is all you need to participate in online education.
Some people think that online learning is not very effective since the students can learn at their own pace. However, this is not exactly the case. Although virtual training allows students to learn at their own pace, they still need to write tests in an online classroom and submit assignments to pass an examination and receive a certificate.
Just like brick-and-mortar educational institutions, the quality of the online classes is largely dependent on the reliability of the course providers. Conqueror’s freight forwarding courses will be provided by CIFFA which is a global leader in logistics education.
Container xChange is a neutral online platform that offers a wide range of training material enabling forwarders to better comprehend the topic of the leasing container industry. Simply stated, your professional education is in the best hands.
It is true that video lectures are an integral part of any virtual class. Nevertheless, this is also true of in-person classes. Moreover, online learning often goes much deeper than that. For example, Conqueror’s online training programme not only comes with fully narrated lessons but also includes case studies and interactive sessions that place the students into real-world scenarios.
Only people who have no idea about the effectiveness and immense popularity of online education propagate such myths. There is absolutely no distinction between the diplomas or certifications received through online or offline education. Both are equally valid. Rather than the format of the education, one should be more concerned with the qualification and credibility of the course providers.
Blume Global with its experience in freight moving technology for rail and intermodal freight has become a major player in the supply chain endeavours of the country
The Indian government has heavily invested in developing the logistics infrastructure of the country with the creation of new freight trains and four new multimodal logistics parks. Blume Global is making the best of this scenario and coming up as one of the most important players in the Indian transportation and logistics sector. They are a new player in the market that first started operating from their office in Bangalore in 2020. Since then, the company has grown exponentially with over 400 employees and $10 million in investment.
To quote Mr. Pervinder Johar, the CEO of Blume Global, “As the only technology provider of true end-to-end supply chain orchestration solutions, we enable our customers with visibility and execution agility all the way from sourcing and manufacturing to final delivery. Digitization is extremely important to create a fully optimized, lean supply chain.” The key component of their growth strategy is to bring the easy exchange of data among all the stakeholders of the shipping process via the creation of a unified Logistics Interface Platform.
The visibility solutions provided by the company is allowing for real-time shipment tracking and prediction of the ETA at the last leg of the shipping process. Their objective is to help freight forwarders create cost-efficient and more effective transportation solutions. The creation of new opportunities for shippers with visibility solutions is allowing them to cope with the market challenges and take the right course of action before the pain points become major issues.
The Charter is expected to motivate shipping companies to enhance and periodically review their inclusion and diversity practices to create equal opportunities for people of all gender, race, nationality, religion, ethnicity, or sexual orientation
After conducting a survey, logistics technology provider RPA Labs has concluded that a vast majority of forwarders still lack the capacity to generate automated ocean freight quotations
They are creating new sorting sites and distribution centres to accelerate the delivery process for both e-commerce and retail store clients
Companies like DB Schenker, CMA CGM, Maersk, and Kuehne + Nager have stopped delivering to Russia by sea, land, and air while DSV and Geodis have halted deliveries to Belarus
“There’s a large universe of investors who want to invest in a pure-play like LTL [less-than-truckload trucking] that’s asset-based with a high return on capital and levered to the ongoing industrial recovery,” says Brad Jacobs, the CEO of XPODSV and Geodis have halted deliveries to Belarus
Most people working in the transportation and logistics sector have surely had
to deal with a large volume of abandoned cargo at some point in their careers.
The port authorities have also created a guide for legitimately channelizing these
abandoned cargoes for the recovery of demurrage and detention charges on
behalf of the consignee.
In this article, we take an in-depth look at the problem of abandoned cargo.
As per the FIATA, a cargo can be called abandoned when “it becomes apparent that the consignee has manifested no intention to take delivery before the expiry of the free period.” However, this free period can differ from one country to another. For instance, in the US, the free period is 6 months after unloading at the dock while in China the free period is just 60 days.
There are several reasons that could lead to the abandonment of cargo.
The answer to this question is not direct since it largely depends on what’s stated in the Bill of Lading. More often than not, the consignee is the owner of the cargo. The consignees who are usually importers, or freight forwarders are in charge of the abandoned shipment. However, 3rd party consignees should be aware of their status in the BoL. Simply put, they should avoid the status of the ‘principal’ party in the paperwork and instead choose the status of ‘agent’. This will allow them to circumvent the liability of the abandoned cargo.
There are various ways in which you as the freight forwarder can deal with the abandoned shipment. You can either destroy the shipment or resell it. However, before proceeding with this, you need to document all the details of the cargo and talk to the port authority. Keep in mind that permission from the port authority should be the first step in this process.
We’d like to take this opportunity to remind our agents once again about Conqueror’s Referral Programme.
As an agent, all you have to do is suggest the names of reliable freight forwarders who are potential candidates for CQR membership.
In case your recommended company makes it to our network then you as the referring agent will get a 25% discount on your next annual membership fee!
