Doha is the capital city of Qatar and it lies on the eastern coast of the Qatar Peninsula on the Persian Gulf. The country has a land area of 11,437 square kilometres and is situated on the Qatar peninsula, between the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea. Qatar has a strategic location and world-class infrastructure that makes it an ideal location for a freight forwarding Annual Meeting. The country is situated on major shipping routes and is within easy reach of markets in Asia, Africa, and Europe. Qatar also has world-class infrastructure, including an extensive network of highways, railways, and airports.
Apart from this, it is one of the countries that accepts most visitors without the need for a visa and offer many direct and cheap flight connections. Besides, as it will soon host the FIFA World Cup, they have relaxed the covid requirements, which makes easier for everyone to attend the Meeting. This event will also advance the country’s infrastructure and foreign policy goals.

The hurricane Ian that ravaged the state of Florida suspended all deliveries and transportation and logistics operations
Hurricane Ian that made landfall in Florida with a wind speed of 150 Kmph was a Category 4 hurricane that caused death, destruction, flooding, and power outages. The ports and railways in southeast Florida either closed or operated partially while the South Carolina Ports Authority shut down all marine terminals in the wake of the storm. Once the relief efforts started logistics companies like FedEx, UPS and US Postal Services resumed service in several storm affected parts of Florida.
Nevertheless, there were over 800 localities where logistics companies suspended pick-up or deliveries that included Fort Myers and Lee Country. FedEx for example is trying to bring back operations in over 40 cities where they temporarily suspended services because of the storm. The US Postal Service has designated 14 cities that will not be able to serve because of massive destruction. The logistics companies are providing an alternate location for each unserved city.
Yet another impact of the hurricane on the freight forwarding sector is the spike in trucking rates. The rates for truckloads going to Florida are on the rise. The flooding of the highways resulted in the closure of the Interstate 75 main route to Sarasota creating dangerous road conditions. Regardless of that several trucking companies have reached out to the Florida Trucking Association to extend their help in the recovery efforts.

The e-commerce boom and the consequent rise in customers’ demand for front-door deliveries have prompted many freight forwarding companies have started operating their own warehouses. However, augmenting the efficiency of warehouses is a consuming task that requires proper management that balances safety, profitability, and efficacy. This is why many businesses resort to using WMS or Warehouse Management Systems to boost their overall output.
WMS or Warehouse Management System is a software that helps to automate the process of warehouse management including picking, inventory tracking, receiving, and fulfilment of orders. Using a WMS could result in enhanced inventory, reduced cost, better workplace safety, and material handling, and finally an increased output. Let us now take a detailed look at some of the key benefits of the Warehouse Management System.
A WMS enhances the workflow in your warehouse by optimizing the warehouse space. It determines the best use of the floor area by taking into account factors like material characteristics and workload. Additionally, they help with waste reduction, misuse of valuable floor space, unnecessary material movement, labour-intensive placement etc.
The WMS provides real-time visibility into inventory data allowing workers to get inventory information at any time of the day through RFID tagging, serial numbers and barcoding. In other words, it allows you to document every shipment as it enters your warehouse, its movements within the warehouse and even during its haulage from point A to point B.
A WMS can vastly enhance the efficiency of your workers by allocating the right task to the right at the appropriate time. Furthermore, it allows for the best utilization of labour by optimizing the travel time within the warehouse. It is capable of making schedules for the workers and regularly allocate the tasks to the best labourer suitable for a particular task.
By helping you reduce your operating costs, a WMS can help you achieve the bottom line of your business. Reduction of wasted space and labour translates into fewer expenses. Moreover, minimizing errors with the help of automation can also allow you to save money. WMSs that can help with workforce management allows you to save money by not overstaffing during the off-season.
WMS will allow you to effortlessly trace the items in your inventory with the help of the lot/batch/serial numbers. The capacity to trace every product in your inventory lowers redundancy, makes way for accurate inventory allocation and provides sufficient data for future tracking or service maintenance.
You can effectively manage your inbound and outbound planning with a WMS. For instance, it optimizes the date and time when your inventory is scheduled to arrive, by taking into account several factors like space availability, equipment availability, and labour availability.
