The agreement was concluded on the 1st March and covers the entire continent of Africa. Commenting on the appointment, James Norman, container manager for Alpha Shipping stated that “the agreement with UES will add value to both companies, as we both seek to expand our activities into Africa”.

We are pleased to inform members that our member in Tel Aviv was nominated as ship agents to discharge the tanker Brovig Vindur at the port of Ashdod in Israel. The team successfully discharged 2,400Tons of CMS in December.

The Green Office program, a savings and improvement program for offices, comes into prominence as a part of the strategic approach of the WWF to reduce human pressure and ecological footprint on natural resources. The program provides participating companies with the opportunity to evaluate their office resources systematically, identify their savings criteria and develop their own environmental management systems. The awarding of this diploma to CQR Turkey breaks new ground in our industry; they are the first such company to receive it.
“We are thrilled to be declared a Green Office. For a long time now, we have been concerned with the environment and our own impact on it which is why we plan and implement improvements with respect to the savings on waste management, electricity consumption and paper consumption. We also believe that we should educate our staff in such matters as well,” explained Agent Coordinator, Devrim Koray.

The delay of even one package would have caused hundreds of thousands euros loss to their client. In order to meet the short deadline, the team was available around the clock picking up the packages from their factory even; yes, even during the night.
The team was very flexible and used different solutions in order to deliver the shipments on time – on board courier, charter flights, next flight out emergency service, prepaid capacity of the airlines, dedicated couriers for pick-ups and deliveries, exclusive support of ground handling agents to ensure handling during the night, etc. Thanks to their good business relations with the carriers and the airlines, as well as their proven record in the three point traffic, none of the shipments was delayed.

During the year 2013, Trans Air Cargo organised the shipping of around 200 horses between Bangkok and Europe/USA and also within Asia.

Their latest horse shipment was in January this year and consisted of 3 horses being shipped from Bangkok to France via Luxembourg on CV. The customer was the Chairman of the Endurance Horse Riding Club Thailand who was going to attend a competition in France.
The team loaded the horses into a soft-floor horse box and provided feed and water during transportation. “We have many years of experience in handling horse shipments, and the continued customer satisfaction is helping to build our reputation and now the challenge is increasing our customer base,” explained Kantorn, Overseas and Projects Manager.
CQR London are quite the experts when it comes to shipping animals
Their portfolio includes ‘regular’ animals, cats, dogs and snakes but also some more unusual ones. On one occasion, the team were asked to ship a consignment of pure line poultry Hatching Eggs to Australia, which was originally stopped by UK Customs who couldn’t believe the value of the shipment, £2,000,000!.
Another of their more unusual requests was to send 2 Peregrine Falcons to Doha; this bird is a most treasured creature in the Middle East.
“The exporter had no previous experience of exporting so we arranged suitable IATA transport boxes for the birds. We also arranged the export paperwork including CITES, booked with Qatar Airways, notifying the UK Vets office and giving the shipper a step by step instruction sheet how to proceed,” explained Dennis O’Driscoll, Brooklands Managing Director.
However, despite the teams careful planning, the shipper ignored all their instructions and just delivered the birds to the airline requiring one of their staff to have to make a mad dash to Heathrow (57 km) to take care of the customs and CITES procedures so the Falcons could be cleared to depart on the booked flight.
“A few months later the same shipper contacted us to say the consignment to Doha went so well he would like us to arrange 5 Falcons for Dubai which we shipped using British Airways,” continued Dennis, “Thankfully there was no repeat of the ‘excitement’ of the first consignment.”

“This is a significant moment for the network. With only 1/10 applications’ passing our external audit, the process of finding the best companies is not as easy as it may sound,” explained an official of the Network. “However, it is crucial to our long-term stability and success.”
The Network’s 3rd Annual Meeting is being held in Kuala Lumpur in May and expectations are high. “With this increase in members, we are expecting our highest ever turnout for a Conqueror meeting. All our members understand the importance of meeting face-to-face and are committed to attending where possible; this is quite a network owner’s dream,” the official emphasised.
It was a busy new year for CQR Bremen, as they were charged with shipping a CAT 775E from Hamburg to Piraeus, Greece

There were a couple of challenges for the team with this shipment. In order for the CAT 775E to board the Ro Ro vessel, the height of the vehicle had to be reduced by 30cm which meant the team had to discharge the nitrogen from the shock-absorbers. In addition, all documentation was prepared with special attention as payment was under letter of credit, no room for errors.

Conqueror’s exclusive agent in Prague, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and we sat down with founder and owner Jan Mádl to get the inside story on the company and why they believe education in this industry is so important.

Q. How did you get into the freight forwarding industry?
A. It was actually a continuation of my university studies. One of the departments at the University of Economics in Prague is ‘Logistics’ and they were and still are able to provide a joint course of theory and practical experience.
Q. Having yourself studied and trained in logistics, what is your feeling on education in the freight forwarding industry?
A. In all honestly, there are very few people who can be considered to be really knowledgeable in our industry. For example, everyone can recite the Incoterms, they are on a poster on the wall of every company’s office, but those with a detailed knowledge of what these terms mean are rare; and Incoterms is just one example.
At PELMI, we believe that our staff should be well-versed in the matters of our industry and so we constantly ensure that they and ourselves are being educated and trained in the wider aspects of the logistics industry. As a company, we actually contribute to specialist periodicals and actively participate in working groups seeking to promote new logistics disciplines.
Q. Does PELMI specialize in any particular service?
A. Yes, we specialize in “High level” logistics so the transportation of things like live animals, hazardous goods (including classes 1 and 7), tank containers and flexi-tanks.
Q. What would be your most memorable shipment?
A. One that sticks in my mind was the shipping of an historical tank from Peru (EXW pedestal by local barracks to door) a couple of years ago. Due to its age and significance, it required a lot of prior planning and delicate handling.
Q. What attracted PELMI to Conqueror?
A. Conqueror has good coverage across the world so that was one attraction. In addition, we were impressed by the strict selection process and whilst of course PELMI had to pass, so has each member so we know that we are working with professional agents with are all financially healthy.
Q. Will you be attending the 3rd Annual Conqueror Meeting 9th-11th May in Kuala Lumpur?
A. Definitely! These meetings are very important for us; we know that we need to meet our partners face to face in order to build cooperation.
