CQR Lagos, Fortune Global Shipping and Logistics has been voted 10th in “50 Fastest Growing Companies in Nigeria.”
Criteria for selection includes:
Annual growth rate
Revenue generated
Quality of products and services
Number of employees.
It should be noted that one key factor in the success of this award was its standard annual growth rate of 617%! Fortune Global Shipping, which was founded in 2006, has gone from strength to strength and this award confirms what we already know, that CQR Lagos is a strong, growing company which provides a high quality service to both its local and international partners and clients.
Now the title of this news says a double celebration; here comes part two.
CQR Lagos has added another string to its bow by being recently Accredited/Licensed by the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority {NNRA} to handle Customs processes and Transport/Haulage of Radioactive Cargoes (DG Class 7). The approval was based on a successful assessment report after a rigorous selection process.
This accreditation puts Fortune into a unique group of organizations, which number only a few, entrusted with the handling of highly specialized/technical cargoes.
We would like to congratulate CQR Lagos on both achievements and invite all members with shipments in Nigeria to get in touch with the team, especially those who deal with radioactive sources in Nigeria.
Alpha Shipping, Conqueror’s exclusive agent in Durban and Johannesburg, specializes in the shipment of many different types of cargoes including explosives, IMO Class 1. Last month, the team sent a number of these shipments to remote mines in Mali, Burkina Faso and Mauretania. The shipping of such cargo is not for the faint-hearted or those laid-back about time!
The process began with the checking and re-checking of documents before the containers were packed in special wood-lined 20 foot GP containers and inspected by the South Africa Maritime Authority (SAMSA).
When completed, the process of organising the railing of the explosive containers on a special block train from Johannesburg to an explosive yard outside Durban port could begin.
Once the vessel’s laycan was advised, CQR Durban then nominated the vessel with the port, SAMSA, the Police, and the port safety officer for final checking. Because of the experience and training the team has had they were able to advise the vessels owners on all the protocols, and certificates required. They did their job well, as permission was granted and the vessel was allowed to berth. Alpha Shipping also assisted the Master with the segregation and stowage of the containers according to the IMDG regulations.
As I mentioned at the start, time is crucial; why? Well, because the vessel can only sail during daylight hours!
If loading was not completed by 1700 hours, the vessel would have had to sail anyway, which would have resulted in short shipment. Thankfully, this was not the first time the team had done this so the process was perfectly coordinated.
We invite all members with shipments in South Africa, to get in touch with CQR Durban.
CQR Surabaya recently transported 47 packages of mineral equipment, weighing 80,000KG from Shanghai to Sale Village, Rembang, Central Java via Surabaya Port. The shipment was moved to Surabaya easily, using the carrier MOL.
However, moving the equipment from the port to the village was another matter. The team loaded, lashed and secured the equipment onto 1×20’FR + 1×20′ OT + 3×40’HC. Due to the narrowness and poor conditions of the roads and the hanging electric and phone cables, this journey needed careful planning.
This shipment, although a headache on paper, thankfully was not in reality, thanks to the careful and meticulous planning of the CQR Surabaya team.

Conqueror would like to congratulate Ekol and its team on this success and we welcome all agents with shipments in Turkey to get in touch with the team.
This is one story for anyone who thinks that attending a network annual meeting will make no difference to their business volume, because if ever there was evidence to the contrary, this is it!
ACL Logistics (Oslo) and Francargo (Rio de Janeiro) were both represented at the 2nd Annual Conqueror Meeting this May and in the words of Guilherme Salera from Rio, what occurred “…was the founding of a wonderful partnership.”
Guilherme continues the story. “After the meeting, we remained in close contact with our partners Kjell Westby and Arild Olsen from ACL Logistics whom had mentioned a possible partnership shipping some goods strictly in the Petro Sector originating in Brazil. In late May, our first breakthrough came with what, in the beginning, was supposed to be an ocean shipment, but because of the tight deadlines, became an oversized urgent air shipment. The project originated in Siemens, Brazil and its destination was the Kanfa Group in Norway/ Denmark.
“The shipment really was a sight to behold; a gigantic 7 x 2,5m tank with many other parts that assembled into an imposing platform with a volume of 16 tons. Between ourselves in Rio and our partners in Norway, we were able to complete the shipment in a swift and timely manner.
“What´s even better, was the impression left on the Exporter and Importer regarding our partnership merits, such as fast communication and coordination from both ends, earning us their trust not only for this shipment, but also for others to come.
“We are tremendously grateful to ACL LOGISTICS and CONQUEROR for this partnership and business opportunity.”
Rogerio Fadigas is co-founder and owner of Cargofast Logistics do Brasil Ltda., Conqueror’s exclusive agent in Sao Paolo. With Brazil hosting the two biggest sporting events in the world, the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup over the next 4 years, we wanted to find out first-hand what the impact of organizing and holding these events is having on freight forwarders in the country.
Q. How and when did you become involved in the freight forwarding industry?
A. Back in 2004, after working for 24 years in various ocean shipping lines, it became apparent to me that this segment of transportation was limited to basically a “port to port” range offering, whilst, worldwide, customers were looking for support from a broader scope of services (door deliveries and pick up, customs brokerage, airfreight, LCL consolidation, etc.) which ocean carriers were either not able to offer or not able to carry out well. In addition to that, customers were and still are, lacking a more knowledgeable, professional, dedicated and “humane” approach from ocean carriers. So to me, the freight forwarding industry looked like a great opportunity and a perfect match for my personality as it was much more about having a helpful, supportive and problem solving attitude to customers unlike a great ocean carrier full of bureaucracy, inflexibility and 9-5 office hours. It was in August 2008 with my three partners that we founded Cargofast Logistics do Brasil Ltda.
Q. What makes Cargofast different to other freight forwarders in Sao Paulo?
A. I think it’s our 40 years of expertise and knowledge of logistics in Brazil and international transportation coupled with timely communications and the aim of serving our clients and agents with professionalism, competitive costs, and the highest quality of service.
Q. Brazil is hosting the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic games. What effects are the planning and organising of these events having on the freight forwarding industry in Brazil?
A. There has been a considerable increase in shipments to Brazil related to these events, particularly in Breakbulk and Project Cargo which we are also specialized in and have been able to secure ourselves or been granted to us by agents worldwide. We expect that as the dates of these events get closer, we will see an increase in our air freight quotations and shipments.
Q. What part is Cargofast playing in the setting up of these events?
A.Besides the Breakbuk and Project Cargo shipments, there has been an increase in our Customs House Broker activity as importers have looked for help on cargo classification codes for their goods in order to avoid paying fines or having their goods put on hold by Brazilian Customs in case of wrong declaration.
Q.What legacy will these events leave Brazil and the freight industry there?
A.Despite the positive impact with upgrades of several airports (some of them have been privatized recently in order to speed up improvements and capacity), construction of new roads and refurbishment of old stadiums have been supported by a multi-million dollar budget, sadly we see that hospitals and schools for the poorer in society lacking investment and any support from these events.
Q. What do you think Cargofast will look like after these two events?
A. Well in 4 years, we will certainly have hired more people in our Ocean, Air, Customs Brokerage, Project Cargo and Trucking departments. These new collaborators will have received training and expertise which will put Cargofast in a stronger position in the market, serving our partners and customers with a greater quality of service.
It is clear that Cargofast is experiencing a boom in its business which is sure to continue over the next 4 years. The result is sure to be that the company will have an even greater position in the international market.
Europrim Shipping SRL, Conqueror’s exclusive member in Constanta, Romania, has been awarded the Excellent Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Certificate (Excellent SME)
The ‘Excellent SME’ certificate is awarded to the best small and medium companies in Romania by the Chamber of Commerce and the Industry of Bucharest in partnership with Coface Romania.
In accordance with EU directives, the main purpose of the certificate is to help develop and promote small and medium-sized businesses, support business relationships, improve the business environment in the country and increase market transparency. The project also helps companies to reduce the risk involved in financial transactions between partners from different countries because the certificate allows both local and international business partners to assess the soundness of each other.
The basis of certification is a complex assessment of the company by Coface Romania through a credit report and daily monitoring and verification of all information that may impact on the economic and financial situation of the company and, consequently, on its ability to meet its commercial obligations to business partners.”
It is clear that the standard of a company needs to be high in order to receive this award and CQR Constanta certainly is that.
We would like to congratulate CQR Constanta and its team on this recognition and encourage all members with shipments in Constanta to get in touch with them.
CQR Phnom Penh, Asian Freight (Cambodia) Co. Ltd, recently handled the shipping of a gargantuan quantity of shoes on behalf of ASICS Trading Co. Ltd, one of the biggest footwear brands in the world, from Cambodia to Japan and the EU. Asian Freight was up against some stiff competition from Yusen Logistics Group for this contract but ultimately it was our guys who came out on top, stopping the multinational in its tracks.
Now back to the shipment; probably from most countries, this would be a direct air shipment, however due to the limited size of the airport in the capital Phnom Penh, freight forwarders must use other means. Taking this into account, CQR Phnom Penh has used its initiative and created successful and popular land/air and sea/air routes for their clients which are time-sensitive, in addition to their standard air/air services.
For this shipment, the team decided to load the 500CBM of goods into seven 40’ HC and then for these containers to be transported by road from Phnom Penh to the airport in Hochiminh city, Veitnam. Finally, the containers were loaded onto China Airline flights for the last leg of their journeys.
Due to its reputation for providing customers with a comprehensive range of import and export air freight services, Asian Freight was the clear choice for this shipment. This is what CEO Sang Rotha had to say about their services, “Regardless of our customers’ needs, we will find the best way possible to satisfy them. We select the airline that caters to their shipping needs and service requirements as well as finding the most expeditious and cost saving route.”
It is plain to see that in Cambodia, CQR Phnom Penh is leading the way in freight forwarding. Conqueror recommends all members with shipments in the country to get in touch with the Asian Freight team.

JCT China was the clear front-runner thanks to its decade of experience in the customs clearance of automotive after sales parts in Beijing and its service to Volkswagen China specifically for more than six years. This is what Volkswagen had to say about JCT, “Once again, we appreciate the efforts that your company has provided to meet the requirements of VW, and your provided solution both for process improvements and price optimizations, in this process, your company has proved its extensive knowledge and know-how in the requested service area.”
In addition to looking after Volkswagen, the team will also be handling their other brands including Lamborghini, Seat, Bentley and Skoda from now on.
Conqueror would like to congratulate CQR Beijing and invite all members with shipments in Beijing to get in touch with the team.
