Q. When and how did you get into the freight forwarding industry?
A. Our journey into the freight forwarding industry began with a deep passion for creating unique, memorable customer experiences. Having a deep know-how in the merchant marine, port operation and international logistics sectors, we saw an opportunity to combine technology, flexibility, and operational excellence in a way that would exceed the expectations of our clients.
Q. Can you tell us a little of the history of Kando?
A. Kando was established in 2015 with the vision of elevating the logistics experience. We embraced the concept of “Kando,” a Japanese term that represents the positive emotions felt when something exceeds expectations. We were driven by a desire to create a logistics company that focused not only on efficiency, but also on generating memorable experiences for our customers through a unique service and innovative solutions. Up to this date, we continue to work with the same drive and passion that characterized our initial efforts.
Q. Which are the latest improvements of your company in the last 5 years?
A. Over the past five years, we have made significant improvements in our technological capabilities, including the implementation of our proprietary JOY system, which enables real-time tracking and operational optimization. This system has allowed us to enhance visibility and improve efficiency throughout our supply chain processes. In addition, we have expanded our service offerings to include a diverse freight solution portfolio beyond the simple handling of containers. Currently we offer perishables, hazardous materials, project & heavy lift cargo, ro-ro (roll-on / roll-off), livestock, liquid & dry bulk, and breakbulk cargo services.
Q. How does Kando approach the transportation of complex cargo such as ro-ro and breakbulk shipments?
A. Kando specializes in the transportation of complex cargo, like we mentioned before, which require unique handling and logistics solutions. For ro-ro shipments, we use specialized vessels designed for the safe transport of vehicles and heavy machinery, ensuring secure loading and unloading processes. For heavy lift and OOG (Out of Gauge) cargo, which includes items too large or hefty for standard containers, we provide customized solutions to transport goods like industrial equipment and project cargo. We leverage our global network and extensive industry knowledge to ensure that each shipment, no matter how complex, is handled with precision and delivered on time, maintaining the high level of service Kando is known for.
Q. What distinguishes Kando from other freight forwarders in your city?
A. Kando stands out because we combine a high level of operational flexibility with cutting-edge technology to deliver exceptional service. We offer a comprehensive range of services from maritime, air, and road transport to warehousing and insurance, all designed to provide our clients with efficient, tailored solutions. Our focus on customer experience and the use of our proprietary system, JOY, for real-time tracking and process optimization also sets us apart from the rest.

Q. What are the main challenges facing freight forwarders in your country at the moment?
A. Freight forwarders in our region face several challenges, including rising freight costs and price volatility, supply chain disruptions, and increasing customer demands for faster and more transparent deliveries. Political and economic uncertainties, as well as environmental regulations, also impact the logistics sector, adding complexity to typical and standard operations. Luckily, we are ready to deal with any surprise we may find in our path.
Q. How is Kando dealing with these challenges on a daily basis?
A. At Kando, we address these challenges by fostering strong partnerships with our global network and providing flexible solutions to meet the evolving needs of our clients. Our team is prepared to manage and solve any unforeseen delays. We leverage advanced technology to improve efficiency and reduce costs, while ensuring clear communication to quickly respond to any unforeseen situations. For example, in navigating the challenges of the Red Sea and Suez Canal, balancing the advantages of these key maritime corridors with the need for streamlined, cost-effective operations has required strategic planning and efficient execution, which Kando has managed effectively.
Q. How do you think technology is changing the freight forwarders industry?
A. Technology is revolutionizing the freight forwarding industry by enhancing efficiency, visibility, and communication. Tools like real-time tracking, AI (Artificial Intelligence), and data analytics are enabling companies to optimize operations, reduce costs, and provide greater transparency to customers. However, it is important to balance technological advances with in-person interactions to maintain strong personal connections. That’s why we actively participate in industry exhibitions such as Breakbulk Americas, Breakbulk Europe, Intermodal South America, Intermodal Europe, and The Heavy Lift Group, staying ahead of market trends and strengthening our industry ties. Additionally, we maintain an active presence on social media platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn to engage with our community and share updates on our services and innovations.
Q. From your own experience, which are the keys to success in the freight forwarding industry?
A. The keys to success are adaptability, strong relationships with partners, and a commitment to deliver excellent customer service. For us, being part of a robust global network like Conqueror is essential. Forwarders should have strong partnerships with reputable carriers and local reps. These connections ensure smooth and secure international cargo movement, but local expertise adds another layer of reliability. It’s also crucial to stay ahead of industry trends, embrace new technologies, and continuously improve operational efficiency.
Q. Where do you see Kando in 10 years?
A. In 10 years, we see Kando expanding our global presence, continuously innovating our service offerings, and solidifying our reputation as a trusted partner in logistics, not only in Colombia, but worldwide. We aim to be a leader in sustainable logistics solutions, leveraging the latest technologies to provide unmatched customer experiences.
